Welcome to DXL-MSG, software for converting emails, contacts and appointments in IBM/Lotus DXL format to MSGs that can be opened in Microsoft Outlook and any other programs that ingest MSGs. DXL emails can also be converted to EMLs.
Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 and 2012, Windows 7, Windows 8, 8.1 or Windows 10.
Microsoft Outlook 2003 or 2007 or the 32-bit edition of Outlook 2010, 2013 or 2016.
IBM/Lotus Notes client for Windows version 6.5 or later.
Having both Notes and Outlook installed on the system where you run DXL-MSG is an absolute requirement.
DXL-MSG may work with older version of Notes but we support its use only with 6.5 and later. It will not work with any version of Outlook other than those listed.
There may be compatibility issues running DXL-MSG on Windows 8.1. We suspect this is due to a problem with Windows 8.1.
Please read this section before using the program.
DXL-MSG converts emails and other items in DXL format, normally but not necessarily extracted from NSF files, to Unicode MSG files that can be opened by Outlook and other applications.
DXL-MSG is supplied in two forms: First, as a Windows console program that you either run at a command prompt or call from a batch or script file. Second, in the form of APIs, one that you can call from C# or any other managed language and one that you can call from unmanaged C/C++. The console converter is single-threaded but the APIs support multiple simultaneous execution threads.
The demo version of the program does not include the API option. Otherwise it is fully functional except that it changes random digits in message text to '#' characters.
As an option, DXL-MSG can also convert to EMLs. In this case, two conversion steps are performed: the DXL is converted to MSG then the MSG is converted to EML.
As it runs, it writes a log file recording all its activity including information about any problems or error conditions it finds.
Custom versions of the program are available. Please let us know if you have special forensic needs or other requirements.
