MailRelayer

What you need in order to use MailRelayer™

On your PC, you need to install MailRelayer with Microsoft® Outlook® 2000, 2002/XP, 2003 or 2007.

MailRelayer should also work well with Outlook 97 and 98 but we no longer support such use.

On the PC where you install MailRelayer you also need:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000, XP or Vista
  • An always-on Internet connection, ideally DSL or better although dial-up is definitely okay
  • An Internet host name or static IP address

Then there are a few things that can interfere with your using MailRelayer. Usually there are ways around these obstacles but they may require a little effort. The online help deals with some of these situations.

Difficulties can arise from:

  • An ISP that does not allow you to operate a network server
  • A firewall that blocks incoming connections to your PC

Most ISPs (Internet Service Providers) allow their customers to run servers. A few, however, especially cable-modem services do not. Some prohibit servers in their services agreement while others filter traffic to forceably prevent server use.

Often however the only real limitation is on running a Web server and operating an IMAP server, which is what MailRelayer really is, is okay. Still be careful.

A firewall may or may not be an obstacle depending on how much control you exert over it. To use MailRelayer, your firewall must be configured to allow connections to the standard IMAP port (143) on your PC.
